Delicious Ayurvedic oatmeal with peaches

14 Aug 2023
by Aimée Kuntz

You can adapt oatmeal to the seasons by combining it with different types of fruit. Did you know that Ayurveda is specific about how best to eat and combine your fruit?

Because fruit is easy to digest, it is recommended to eat fruit separately from other foods. And eat your fruits at least half an hour before or 2 hours after another meal. But there is an exception; namely by (for example with oatmeal) heating the fruit along with the rest of the dish. It is, as it were, already pre-digested a bit. That's what I did in this recipe. And personally, this oatmeal with peaches is my favorite oatmeal recipe.

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • 120 grams of oatmeal
  • 200 ml oat milk or almond milk
  • 200 ml of water
  • 3 wild peaches (or 4 plums)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 teaspoons ceylon cinnamon powder
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla powder
  • pinch of Himalayan salt

Preparation

  • Put the oatmeal in a saucepan and mix it with the Ceylon cinnamon powder, cardamom, vanilla powder and the Himalayan salt.
  • Mash half the banana and add it to the oatmeal. Also add the oat milk (or almond milk) and the water. Heat the oatmeal mixture and bring it to a boil.
  • In the meantime, cut the peaches (or plums) and the remaining half banana into pieces and add them to the oatmeal and heat the oatmeal mixture. Once the oatmeal is boiling, reduce the heat to low and cook gently for about 5 minutes.

Divide the oatmeal into two bowls.

Enjoy!
